Oh no, not again!

Today was. PA day at TDSB. Mika and I spent the morning in my classroom, rearranging desks (me) and reconfiguring my smartboard setup (Mika). It took all morning and I’m happy we did it. Now my classroom is more functional and I can say there is better flow in the room. Feng shui is important, after all.

By the time we got out, it was almost 1pm. So we skipped the idea of a sit-down lunch and opt for Chinese bakery buns instead. We needed to eat coz we were starving. I was on my phone while we went to the robotics store. After we went to Mastermind and Chapters at Bayview Village. I still had my phone.

M dropped me off at home, just before he picked up the kids, to minimize tears with V. (Z is good about me not being home now.). I had it in me to clean the house so I started around 3:30 and cleaned for about 2 hours straight. Sweep, mop, vacuum, wipe surfaces, change sheets and tidy.

By the time I was done, I was sore and hungry. So I sat, for about 15 min, with the tv on, eating my soup. It was satisfying and I wAtched the news. Then it was 6:20pm. I started to get ready and wanted to text. M about their ETA. I couldn’t find my phone. I remembered putting it in my bin, and placing the bin on the planter outside, so I could free my hands to unlock the door.

I checked the bin. I looked all over the first floor. Kitchen. Nothing. Island. Nothing. Back to the bin. Nothing. I text m from the bell mobility website. No luck. Crap. It’s now 6:35 and they are going to be home soon. So I head down to the basement to hide.

I hear them come in. I wait about 15 minutes and I sneak up to go to the car. I’m sure it’s in between the front seats as I was charging it. I’m so sure. I get in the car and turn the light on. Gasp! Nothing. I look again. Nothing. So I go back in the house and as I was on the landing, I decided to check inside the planter box. Nothing.

I look down onto the snow and see something. A hole with a familiar shape. No, not a circle, but a skinny rectangle with a recongnizable size. Hey, that’s my phone.

Just then, panic set in. Oh no! Not again. (I had dropped my iphone in the toilet once before and don’t want to relive that experience again.). I quickly went down the steps and onto out snow covered front yard. I don’t care that I’m not wearing boots. I had to get the iPhone. I come near the hole and reach down inside it. At first, nothing. Then as I move my hand around, I feel it. Yes, my iPhone!!!

I immediately get back in the house and open the pantry. Rice box. Must dry out the phone, in case if water. I tried to turn it on. Nothing. I’m thinking the worst. Then I plugged in the portable charger and turn it on again. Phew. It turned on.

At his point, I hear V crying, asking for me. I exit, carrying the rice box with me, with my phone inside.

It is safe. I’m lucky.

Now I’m just lying on the bed at the sleep clinic, waiting for gel and electrodes to be placed on my head and legs. Hoping for a good nights sleep.

But I’m worried. I still haven’t heard from Mika. I feel bad for V and him. They might not get much sleep tonight and she’ll be very upset and exhausted in the morning. I miss them already. I hope all is good.

Snowy Day

Yesterday has to have been my worst day this winter so far. Why? Here are some reasons…

6. I had no voice all day but the kids were still pretty inconsiderate.
5. My head was all stuffed because of this cough and cold that I couldn’t think straight at all.
4. I still have not submitted my grade 9 report card files.
3. I was stressed out about activity day being the day after and feeling completely unprepared.
2. I was stressed out about not being able to pick up Z because his school decided to close due to the weather.
1. I panicked and searched the snow for about 15 minutes looking for my dropped car keys.

That’s about it. Rough day. And I had a headache all day too.

As a parent, I’m sure that we have all done the unthinkable – put our kids in front of the tv to get things done. Well, for us, it’s usually the iTouch. It sounds terrible but it’s really not.

I think if there is something that is abundant in our house other than food, it is technology. Altogether, we have 2 iTouches, an iPad, 3 laptops, 2 tvs, a Wii, and an XBox. It’s no wonder that our 2 year old is so proficient with the use of technology. He is such an avid Apple user that he has learned his alphabets from the iPad apps we have. Recently, he is using he Wii to Play bowling and golf.

All day has not been himself. He has been pouty, demanding, impatient and moody. We suspect that he is not feeling well. At breakfast, he wanted the iTouch but we didn’t let him have it because we didn’t want it be a regular thing. So he pouted and his nose started turning red because he was about to cry.

Being a mild day, I offered to take him out to the deck to play with the snow. We had fun throwing snow around and piling it up in the middle. I gave him cups and containers to play with as well. He even rolled around on the snow.

While we were outside playing, V sat in her chair inside watching us. I would occasionally look at her and dance around and it made her smile. She has been so easy to make laugh it’s so much fun to play with her.

At the end of the day, this is what Z looks like – exhausted. Poor boy. Hope he sleeps well tonight. He has been waking up before 6am lately.
