New Day, New Surprises

Last night, M and I were talking about sleep and our kids.  Why is it that other people’s kids sleep in till 8am and nap for more than 1.5 hrs?  It seems that we are being punished with their sleep patterns.  Enough said, we thought since V is now 4 months, turning 5 months, she should be able to stay up longer than 2 hrs.  So today is the start of the new sleeping schedule.

V surprised me today by falling asleep in the carseat on the way home and staying asleep for a little over an hour.  That is rare!  Her 1st nap was the usual 30 m in though so I was not banking on anything after that.

Z, on the other hand, woke up at 4:45 am.  Yikes, I know.  Waking up at 5 or 5:30am is one thing, but 4?  Anyhoo, he went down for his nap around 1pm and is still sleeping.  I am hoping for a 2 hr nap.  He must be exhausted.

Sleep Anomaly

Last night I woke up at 2:40am and panicked because V was still sleeping. She had gone for 8 hrs without a feed and I worried. I also was so engorged that I leaked onto our bed and had to express milk because she would not latch. After 5-7 min of expressing, she finally ate but it took her a while to go back to sleep. In any case, I guess the Advil did work.
Tonight, we gave her a dose as well, but she’s going to be sleeping in the crib instead. We’ll see how it goes. I hope she sleeps like last night.

Cranky in Her Sleep

It’s been a very rough start for V’s sleep so far. This is also the exact same thing as last night. She went form with a fight with M so I had to go in and nurse her after i put Z down.

By the time she fell asleep, it was 7:15pm. She was in the carseat. 7:45pm, she woke up with an angry cry so I went in and picked her up and rocked her. That didn’t work so I gave her the breast. I put her in the crib after she fell asleep.
8:10pm, she cried out again. Pick up, breast, now she’s in the carseat.

I can’t even think of sleeping because I anticipate her waking up every 20-30 minutes. I’m not sure what’s going on but it looks like M is going to the Hillcrest Info session alone tomorrow night. There ain’t a way V will sleep through the first 3 hrs without waking and crying.

Both kids were up early today. Z at 4:40 am and V at 5:30 am. Both got woken up by poo. Pretty $!’??@. I know. But what can you do? Just hope the rest of the day goes well.

Seeing that we’re home all day, I let him cozy up on the couch and watch Curious George the movie. He has also been nursing the same smoothie I made him an hour ago. To hasten the day, I’m going to give him a bath before naptime. At least that’s my plan so far.

Well, the plan for Z has worked out. But I’m having problems with V’s sleep lately. I suspect teething because she wants to nurse all the time. Her naps are so short now and with the amount of effort I put into it, it’s only 30 min long. She wants to nurse to sleep all the time. I’m tempted to put he in the carseat.

I want to sleep train her but am unsure. Her nighttime sleep is also starting to get worse. She used to be able to sleep for 5-7 hrs straight before waking for the first feeding. Now it’s more like 4-5 feedings a night. It’s exhausting. I need to break this cycle before she gets older.

Here I made her sit in the Bumbo to pretend to play the piano. I even gave her time in the Exersaucer to tire her out. No luck.

I even put her in the Jolly Jumper and she was good in it. She never complained once except when I took her out. I was impressed at how upright her posture was – her neck was well supported.

Despite all the activities, she’s on her 4th 30 min nap and is sleeping in the wrap, with a nursing cover. I’m thinking this will be a halfer again. For sure it’s teething because she gets frustrated and even gags when she shoves her fist into her mouth. Poor girl.
