Archive for the month “January, 2012”

Today has been a very busy day. As a result, I only have one photo. Every morning, the kids come and hang out on our bed between 6 and 7 am. Usually it’s just Z but V woke up early as well – around 5:30 am. I love that they were both smiling.

What Z Said

On the way up to the bedroom, Z wanted to wash his hands. M told him he could if he brushed his teeth first. Well, Z didn’t like that and being a toddler, he threw a tantrum on the flood in his room. In the meantime, I’ve got V, who is upset because we gave her Advil, ready to go to sleep.

So I switched with M and dealt with Z instead. He realized one of his stuffed animals was missing so I went to go get Lamby. While I went, I asked him to do his ‘job’ – which was to brush his teeth. During book time ( he gets 3 books at bedtime and 1 for nap time), he asked to wash his hands. I thought he might’ve forgotten but I guess not. So I told him we could after the books.
Just before I took him to the bathroom, here is what went down.
Me: So, why do u need to wash ur hands?
Z: because it has hand cream on it.
Me: we’ll, why do I want to wash the hand cream off?
Z: it’s datty (dirty)
Me: oh, I see.

I was in the kitchen tidying up when I heard Z say, “I’m going to call daddy.”. By the time I came around to see what he did, the number was already dialing. The beauty of speed dial. M didn’t answer so it kicked into answering machine.

A minute later, M called back and I put on the speakerphone for him. He had a full conversation with Z and it was so cute to see him talking on the phone. I also found out much later that he had been taking photos of his Cream of Mushroom Soup and cucumbers on his plate. So funny.

V and I got to hang out for about 45 min while Z was napping. It’s so easy to just put her down and do other things. I feel bad when I can’t balance my time between the two of them, especially in rough days. She was in such a happy mood.

I think I’m slowly starting to accept the fact that she might just be a catnapper for now. I’m happy if she sleeps much better at night.

Cranky in Her Sleep

It’s been a very rough start for V’s sleep so far. This is also the exact same thing as last night. She went form with a fight with M so I had to go in and nurse her after i put Z down.

By the time she fell asleep, it was 7:15pm. She was in the carseat. 7:45pm, she woke up with an angry cry so I went in and picked her up and rocked her. That didn’t work so I gave her the breast. I put her in the crib after she fell asleep.
8:10pm, she cried out again. Pick up, breast, now she’s in the carseat.

I can’t even think of sleeping because I anticipate her waking up every 20-30 minutes. I’m not sure what’s going on but it looks like M is going to the Hillcrest Info session alone tomorrow night. There ain’t a way V will sleep through the first 3 hrs without waking and crying.

Today has been a very busy day. The Brazilian students staying with us had a free day today so we took them to dim sum at Century Plaza. They really enjoyed it and the food was excellent today.

I’ve been holding V for the last 90 minutes on her rocking chair. She woke up after only 20 min into her sleep and M went to pick her up and rock her back. As I tried to take a nap, I kept hearing her cry out so I went in and nursed her.

She was literally attached to me for 45 min and as a result, she slept for a total of 2 hrs and 15 min. My lower back was sore. But she woke up happy.

On the plus side for me, I got to watch 2.5 episodes of Prison Break – a marathon in tv watching. Yay. How often do I get to sit and watch something?

I also tried to put her in the MeToo chair during dinner. She didn’t last too long because she was sinking. She’s in bed now and I’m hoping she won’t wake up again until much much later.

Well, it’s now just after 6pm and she did wake up. I think she thinks she was taking a nap and is planning to go back to bed for 7pm. Z is taking his bath with M and he is still cute as ever before. I love his little nakedness.

The Morning After

Here are the results of my hair tie experiment.

What do you think?

Hair Ties

I’ve been wanting to try the paper bag curling method by Michelle Phan that I saw on YouTube. I tried it with the paper bag strips she suggested but it didn’t work. They were getting wrinkled too much and were not holding up all the hair I had.

So I switched to scrap fabric pieces I’ve got lots of those. I also enlisted my hubby’s help – while he watched his Storage Wars show on AE. It was hard work since my hair was partially damp to begin with, instead of damp. Anyways it is done and all I have to do is sleep on it tonight. Here is what I look like:

I’ll post a photo tomorrow morning when I take the ties off.

Nice looking buns

We have been baking a lot in our kitchen. Not just sweets but also breads. Today, M made hamburger buns. We have been talking about making them for a while now.

Here is what they looked like while proofing.

Here they are after baking. They were so soft and fluffy. OMG.

The recipe is from the Kitchn. Try it and you’ll love it. It took no time compared to most breads.

Having a nanny was great. Not only is your house clean but the little one is also cared for while you are at work. It’s amazing though how much and how little, at the same time, attachment he has with her. He never asked about her after we let her go. At the same time, when she comes to babysit or clean the house, he is excited to see and play with her.

I love the innocent look of a child watching hockey and watching the pleasure they experience as the devour a brownie. Prior to him getting the brownie, he told us he wanted to get dessert from the kitchen. We asked him if he could smell something and he exclaimed, “Brownies!”.

Washing an newborn is not as fun as washing a 3 or 4 month old. V used to cry whenever we took off her clothes. Now she gets so excited and even more so when she sees herself in the mirror naked before getting into the tub. Her hair is stylable. If you comb it out after the bath, it’s straight. But if you finger comb it, then it’s curly.
